Thanks to Katherin, found a bug caused by misagreement in conventions of indexing of endcaps in SpdEcalECPoint (-1/+1) and SpdEcalMCHit (0/1). This caused an issue where an endcap cluster consisted of cells with EndcapID = -1, despite the cells being in endcaps
